This will be the first of a series of posts to help you successfully begin a long-term change. While the tips can be used for all goals, they have been specifically written for people wishing to start a vegan lifestyle.
When I first started out, I planned to do so only for a month.
Now, why I started, and why it ended up becoming my lifestyle (instead of a phase, as some of my friends think.. "are you STILL vegan?" haha!) contribute to several things, and people.
If you're looking for a change for the better (health/mentality/vitality/sense of purpose/fun/challenge/what have you), then I can think of nothing better than to give a vegan lifestyle a chance.
However small the change you plan on achieving, here are some tips.
Tips to becoming successful in reaching, and maintaining that change.
1. Inspiration
Wherever you find it/he/she, use it! In this day and age, it is beyond easy to find an inspirational fitness account on blogger/Instagram/Facebook/tweeter/YouTube, & that still most definitely applies to vegan lifestyle accounts. Now, most of them are foodie/yoga enthusiasts, cos that's what gets me going!
Some of my faves are:
Blogs
- VeganWestie: A helpful blog that has informed me of the places in the west that are vegan friendly/vegan!
- Cleanbodyfreshstart tumblr: if you haven't heard of Rosie from cleanbodyfreshstart before- she's a must follow. Rosie is a rad chick who spreads a wholesome, compassionate message and was the major key in getting me to start my change. Besides educating her followers on the benefits of living a vegan lifestyle (for both you, the animals and the environment), she also posts ah-may-zing photos of her crazy flexibility skills/strength (aka yoga) with beautiful Queensland, AU backdrops.
- Vegangela: this Canadian-born-turned-Aussie gal has got a minimalistic blog interface, making it easy to browse through her incredibly wide range of ridiculously delicious, tummy satisfying recipes (my sister and I are big fans of the Tofu & Spinach Cannelloni!!). Great food recipes are not the only thing you'll be heading back to her site for- she does reviews on vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants, and beauty products too.
Instagram accounts
- Cleanbodyfreshstart instagram: Rosie is a pro at making a bowl of fruits look so dang good. Plus, there are even more photos/videos of her doing yoga. She makes it look so easy (trust me, it takes a lot of practice!)- and looks light as a feather.
- Funkyforest's instagram: this girl has got skillz! There's a meme circulating around somewhere on IG saying "I only went vegan so I could eat more". THIS GIRL EATS LIKE A QUEEN. And I in no way say that as a bad thing- I really wish I had the pleasure of eating her massive bowls of roasted veg salads/granola/fruits, or big ass servings of her cakes/cupcakes/burgers... *dies drooling*. What's great is, she's passionate about sharing her food- even opening up a pop-up cafe store which got good reviews! I'm hoping to try it out for myself soon when she's ready to open up again, because.. damn. The photos looked good.
Youtubers
- FullyRawKristina's YouTube: she's given me great inspiration for some juice and zoodle sauce recipes! My faves are the OJ/spinach/basil juice, Soulshine juice, and the Beetroot/cinnamon marinara sauce recipe.
- Isa Chandra: the coolest chef I've ever met/stalked online (she also has a blog, PPK). I could live off her Mac & Cheeze, and Rosemary Choc Chip Cookies.
Keep in touch for the next tip for successful metamorphosis! I hope you find some inspiration from my list above, but if not, go and venture out for your own personalised list of inspiration and list them below!
